RDP Queens Move onto Finals

Lloydminster, AB (March 11, 2023) - The Lakeland College King's Energy Group Rustlers and Red Deer Polytechnic Queens clashed in game 2 of their best of three league semi final series in Lloydminster tonight. The Queens were looking to advance to the league final while the Rustlers were hoping to send things back to Red Deer for a game 3.

The Queens would get the first goal early as Tasha Barsby would score just 45 seconds into the game. Drawing assists on the opener were Avery Lajeunesse and Jailyn Bablitz. The Queens would extend their lead to 2-0 on a goal from Kaedence Mollin on the power play. Assists would go to Alesha Santos and Brenna Reid. The Queens would hold an 8-6 advantage heading into period 2. 

The Rustlers had dug themselves a hole and had to come out aggressively in period 2 to keep their season alive. Leading goal scorer Hailey Carothers would cut the lead in half with assists going to Kylie Perry and Kennedy Taylor. The Rustlers would draw three Queens penalties but could not get the tying goal before the end of the period. Six minutes later, the Queens would restore their two goal lead as Jailyn Bablitz would notch her second point of the night, beating goaltender Chantel Weller of the Rustlers at the 9:03 mark of period 2. Assists would go to Avery Lajeunesse and Sarah Raymond. The Rustlers would outshoot the Queens 13-6 but trail by a 3-1 score heading into the third period. 

Both teams would have chances in the third but Weller or Queens goalie Izzy Palumbo proved difficult to beat. The teams each had 7 shots on net with the Rustlers leading overall for the evening 26-21. The Queens would prevail 3-1 in this second game of the series to advance to the ACAC Championship Final against the NAIT Ooks.
