ACAC South Regional Women's Futsal Tournament 2 Recap
Olds, AB - This past weekend, the Olds College Broncos hosted the second South Regional Tournament of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Futsal season. Six schools participated, including the host Olds College Broncos, Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens, SAIT Trojans, Ambrose University Lions, Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks and the Medicine Hat College Rattlers. Hosting both the men's and women's teams, there were a total of 12 teams in Olds, Alta. that were all battling hard as this was the final showdown of the regular season and the last opportunity to secure a spot in the 2025 ACAC Futsal Championship.
"Overall, it was a high-intensity weekend of Futsal," says Allan Siwela, Olds College Broncos Futsal Coach. "On the women's side, some dominance was shown by teams such as SAIT, who finished this weekend and their season undefeated. However, other teams also had big achievements, such as the Rattlers, who won three of their four games to hold onto second place, and the Ambrose Lions who battled hard against RDP to get their first point in the standings."
On the women's side, the SAIT Trojans had an impressive performance, beating three of the four teams by a minimum of four and a maximum of a 10-point difference. This solidified their spot at the top of the standings with a 10-0 record. Medicine Hat College was the only team able to keep within a one-point difference of SAIT during games, and this was reflected in the rest of their games over the weekend as they finished 3-1 in the tournament and second in the South overall. The Lethbridge Kodiaks had a strong showing as well, finalizing their third-place finish in the regular season.
Olds College Broncos, Red Deer Polytechnic and Ambrose University had many competitive games throughout the weekend but were unable to consistently bring results to garner themselves play-off spots.
