David Colley Honoured as 2015-16 ACAC Women’s South Soccer Coach of the Year

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference is pleased to announce that Dave Colley, head coach of the Red Deer College Queens, has been selected by his ACAC coaching peers as the 2015-16 Women's South Soccer Coach of the Year. The award was presented to Dave at the ACAC Women's Soccer Championships October 29th in Grande Prairie.

Colley has been with the Queens for 16 years, 11 as an assistant coach and five as head coach, including the last four. He won an ACAC bronze medal his first year as head coach in 2012-13.

"The time David spent working as assistant coach prepared him for eventually taking on the top role", commented Diane St-Denis, Athletic Director at RDC.  "He's spent a lot of time on recruiting players and developing a team philosophy that allows our student-athletes to express themselves in a more relaxed and free manner while challenging each other on a daily basis. I think this year sees that effort begin to come to fruition."

This year Colley, along with assistant coaches Moira Duley and Katrina Loiselle, put together one of RDC's strongest teams, winning their first-ever South Division championship with an undefeated 8-0-2 record. He believes in putting together a team built on a strong defence and with players who have confidence in themselves and each other. He also believes in having players who must compete with each other to earn playing time, whether starting or coming in off the bench. This season the Queens scored 33 goals, the second most in the conference, and allowed just five.
