The Ambrose Lions women's soccer team took on the Lakeland Rustlers during a chilly Saturday afternoon on September 29. It was an all-around very good and close game, starting off with Ambrose Lions' #13, Bethany Herman, assisting on #14, Emily Hintz's goal which was the first of the game. A sign of things to come, Emily Hintz and Bethany Herman worked spectacularly together all game, combining to score 3 Lions goals. About half way through the first half, Lakeland Rustlers #12, Ashley Miller, had a chance to level the score however goalie #0, Janelle Perry, made a spectacular sliding save to maintain the Lions lead. She would score both Rustlers goals later in the game, however this still would not be enough for the Rustlers to defeat the Lions.
Bethany Herman, would score 2 of her own (1 assisted by Rachel Wolf), to top Lakeland for their 2nd win of the season. At the half, the Lions led 2-1. The 2nd half saw goals scored in rapid succession, as in the 64th minute, Bethany Herman scored her second of the game immediately followed by a 2nd goal by Ashley Miller. Late pressure by the Rustlers, saw Lakeland have one last attempt at scoring on the Lions but it was saved again by the Lions goalie, Janelle Perry. In their first home victory, Rachel Wolf was awarded the Player of the Game for the Ambrose Lions. Thanks to her 2 goal effort, Ashley Miller received Player of the Game recognition for the Lakeland Rustlers.
