Lions Defense Unable to Sustain Trojans Attack

Lions Defense Unable to Sustain Trojans Attack

What was an originally scheduled for a day after 20cm of snow fell, the Lions and Trojans played on a beautiful evening under the lights at Rundle College.  From the opening kick, the Lions game plan was clear, play strong defense at all costs!  Going into the game SAIT was averaging 5.2 goals per game, while Ambrose has only averaged 1 goal a game, so the Lions much preferred a low scoring game.  For the first 30 minutes the Lions protected their end clearing the ball and forcing the Trojans to go over top of their defensive line, however the Trojans were not without their chances.

In the 16th minute, a Lions foul in the box resulted in penalty kick, however Skye Gordon stepped up and shot it wide left.   Nearing the end of the half, SAIT managed to get their first of the game of a corner that wasn't able to be cleared by the Lions.  #7 Mataya Blakney, managed to sneak it past keeper Karina Kurtzweg.   In the 81stminute, SAIT managed to get their 2nd goal of the game off a through ball up passed up from #18, Maddie Lee (her second assist of the game) to #5 Sage Mayers.  The Lions more than held their own for a brand new program against the 3rd ranked team in the Nation.

The player of the game for the SAIT Trojans was #2, Sarah Lapine and for the Lions, #8, Rachel Wolf.  These two teams play their rematch this Saturday at SAIT.
