WSOC | Kodiaks Offence Explodes in Victory over Olds

WSOC | Kodiaks Offence Explodes in Victory over Olds

Sept. 19, 2021 - In their first game back at home in nearly two years, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks women's soccer team gave their fans plenty to cheer about on Sunday afternoon.

Kylie Bolton scored four times while Olivia DePasquale added a hat trick of her own as the Kodiaks set a new program record for goals scored on Sunday afternoon in a 12-6 drubbing of the visiting Olds College Broncos.

The 12 goals is the most goals ever scored by a Kodiaks women's soccer team in an ACAC conference game, eclipsing the previous high of eight tallies set in 2015.

It was a ferocious opening few minutes, with Olds grabbing the first close chance of the game just seconds in before the Kodiaks countered and earned a free kick from thirty yards out.

Just as she did in their season opening win on Friday,  DePasquale opened the scoring with a rocket of a free kick that soared past the head of Broncos keeper Rheona Marrow.

To their credit Olds answered right back, with Tiona Paton breaking free to level the score at one before the game was four minutes old.

That's when the Kodiaks took over, roaring back to score seven unanswered goals before half. Bolton found the net four times, while DePasquale finished off her hat trick. Malorie Hanson also scored her first as a Kodiak as Lethbridge led 8-1 at the break.

Lethbridge would push the lead to 11-1 thanks to goals from Krista Van Diemen, Megan Morrison and Ashley Sazalski. Avery Mclean also added a late marker.

After a series of substitutions, the Broncos started to make an offensive charge and made the game tighter than the Kodiaks would have liked. Five goals in the span of 15 minutes narrowed the gap, with Felicia Rodney tallying a hat trick of her own while Paton added two more. In the end, it was too little too late for the visitors.

The Kodiaks (1-1) will now prepare to take on the Medicine Hat Rattlers at home next Friday, Sept. 24. First kick is set for 3 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Broncos (1-1) will prepare to host Augustana on Saturday, Sept. 25 at noon.
