WSOC | Kodiaks Stay Undefeated

Sept. 24, 2021 - After a successful opening weekend that catapulted them into the CCAA national rankings, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks women's soccer team continued their winning ways on Friday.

Kylie Bolton's team leading sixth goal held up as the game winner as the Kodiaks downed the rival Medicine Hat College Rattlers 4-0.

As they did in their opening two games, the Kodiaks set the tone early with a quick marker.

Bolton pounced on an errant Rattler pass in front of their net, sliding it by keeper Amanda Oevering for an early lead in the fifth minute.

Lethbridge kept Oevering busy for the remainder of the first half, but the Rattlers keeper was up to the task, making eight saves to keep her team within one.

Nurturing a one goal advantage into the second half, the Kodiaks decided the best defence was a good offense.

The hosts suffocated the visitors in terms of possession, allowing just one Rattlers shot in the final 45.

Eventually the flood gates opened, with Olivia DePasquale giving the home side some much needed insurance in the 80th minute. After winning an individual battle, DePasquale fired a perfect shot from the top of the box that just slid over the outstretched arms of Oevering.

DePasquale then set up the Kodiaks third goal two minutes later, winning another battle and finding Jayna Timinski who fired it home while streaking down the left side.

Ashley Sazalski put the icing on the cake, displaying nice footwork in front of the net to put home a loose ball in the 83rd minute.

Cailey Lister recorded the clean sheet in the Kodiaks net, playing a solid and aggressive game despite not facing a shot on target.

Kodiaks rookie Megan Morrison was named the host's ACAC player of the game after a marvelous display of controlling the pace of the game in the midfield.

The Kodiaks (3-0) will now prepare for their toughest test of the season. On Friday they visit Calgary to take on SAIT Trojans in a battle of two undefeated and nationally ranked teams. They will then travel to Calgary again on Sunday to take on the Ambrose Lions.
