Rattlers bite Broncos at home.
The Olds College Broncos headed down to Medicine Hat to take on the Rattlers on a sunny warm day in Southeastern Alberta. With 20 Degrees on the thermometer, fall weather had not yet become a factor. As the opening kick was played in however, the wind started to pick up and gust with power. The game started with both teams battling for possession in the midfield. An evenly matched start to the game saw the first 10 minutes go by with little consequence or action at either end. The first shot on goal came courtesy the Broncos which was easily swallowed up by the Rattlers Amanda Overing. The Rattlers responded with a few poor quality chances the other way. The First action came when Emily Lafreniere of the Rattlers finished off a Maisa Rebello cross to open the scoring in the 21st minute. Just 7 minutes later the Rattlers followed up with another goal, this time from Shelby Bach off a cross from Rowan Prud'homme. The Broncos seemed to respond to this pushing the ball deep in the Rattlers end earning 4 corners in a short period of time. The pressure unfortunately was not yielding much in the way of quality chances for the Olds side. Medicine Hat responded and ran quickly down the field and saw Emily Lafreniere finish off a ball from a near impossible angle, sneaking the ball in the near post in the 39th minute. As the half came to a close the Rattlers saw their lead at 3-0 moving into the second half with the wind at their back.
The second half started with the Rattlers Rebello testing her range early and sailing a shot over the bar. But the Broncos were able to come right back down the field with a chance of their own. The start of the half was being played in one end or the other in direct opposition to the first half. As the half settled in the ball began to settle down a bit, with more of the play coming in the middle. The home side seemed to take advantage of the wind at their backs and were able to quickly move the ball deep into Bronco territory. With this they were able to win a penalty kick in the 58th minute easily finished off by Maisa Rebello. As the clock continued to tick away, the Rattlers continued to hold the majority of the pressure keeping the broncos hemmed in their own end. Every so often the Broncos would break through with a darting run down the field, but were continually thwarted by Amanda Overing of the Rattlers. Medicine Hat was able to strike again off the foot of Shelby Bach who was able to turn and bury a low shot in the corner in the 72nd minute. With the Broncos feeling the pressurte of being shut out, they started to apply much more pressure looking for a breakthrough. This caused the Rattlers Rowan Prud'homme to commit a hard foul earning a yellow card. But it was once again the Rattlers who were able to convert late. Off a penalty kick, the ball rung off the bar and Shelby Bach was able to finish off the scramble to score her hattrick goal in the 85th minute. With the game in no doubt the time ran out with a Rattlers victory of 6-0 over the visiting Broncos.
