OLDS, Alta. - In a highly entertaining match at the Ralph Klein Centre, the Ambrose University Lions dug deep for a four-set victory over the Olds College Broncos.

Julia Kemper had a superb performance for Ambrose (12-7), finishing with 15 kills and 15 digs to earn player of the game honours. Makayla Beisal also hit double figures with 11 kills and 13 digs for the Lions, who moved to within one game of officially clinching a berth in the ACAC Women's Volleyball Championship on top of their host slot.

Emily Zaleschuk turned in another solid all-around performance for the Broncos (1-16) with six kills and 18 digs, while Samantha Laboucan and Janeen Pellatt added five kills apiece, as did Kayley Lloyd, Olds College's player of the game.

The match was part of Olds College's RBC Game Night as part of the ACAC's Make Some Noise for Mental Health initiative.

The Lions showed their teeth early and often in the first set, building a sizable lead over the Broncos as they cruised to a 25-9 victory and a one-set lead.

Ambrose sought a similar result in the second set, as they led 14-10 midway through the frame. However, the Broncos dug in and fought back, squaring the match at one set apiece with a 25-22 win.

The Lions found their form once more in the third set, maintaining control from start to finish as a 25-16 margin put them up two sets to one.

The fourth set followed a similar path, with Ambrose pulling away late to wrap up the match with a 25-19 victory.

Olds College and Ambrose University will complete the back end of their doubleheader in Calgary on Saturday at 6 p.m.
