OLDS, Alta. - The Briercrest College Clippers clinched at least a tie for first in the ACAC South with a straight-sets victory over the Olds College Broncos at the Ralph Klein Centre on Saturday.

Mia Harder led the offensive push for Briercrest (18-2) with nine kills and three aces paired with 12 digs, while Becky Garner added seven kills and 15 digs.

Mikalya Benterud chipped in with six kills and three aces to be named Briercrest's player of the game.

For the second straight day, Megan Gleddie paced the Broncos (1-19) offensively, finishing with a game-high 12 kills and 11 digs, while a 13-dig performance earned player of the game honours for Olds College libero Clara Serrano.

Briercrest, the CCAA's fourth-ranked squad, had a clinical opening set, jumping out ahead early and gradually extending the advantage en route to a 25-15 victory.

The second set was a much different story, as the Broncos kept pace with Briercrest and had a 21-17 lead late in the frame. However, the Clippers dug in and came back, going on a run to take the second 25-22.

Briercrest held court for the majority of the third set, jumping out ahead 19-10. The Broncos would make it interesting late, but the Clippers pushed forward to take the sweep with a 25-18 win in the third.

While a SAIT loss to Red Deer would give Briercrest the ACAC South's top seed, the Clippers can win it outright next week as they welcome the Trojans to Saskatchewan on Friday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. Meanwhile, the Broncos are headed south next weekend for a doubleheader with the Medicine Hat College Rattlers.
