Lions Come Back to Win Home Opener

Lions Come Back to Win Home Opener

Ambrose fans were treated to a great night of volleyball in what was the 2019-2020 Regular Season Home Opener. The women's game saw a repeat of last night where the Lions were pushed to 5 sets by the Medicine Hat Rattlers but ultimately were able to come out on top.  After Ambrose won the first set easily, 25-13, the Rattlers pushed back, playing scrappy defense and eliminating their attacking errors. The second and third sets saw Medicine Hat outplay the Lions, winning 25-23 and 25-19.  Thanks to a strong showing from fans supporting the Rattlers, Med Hat gained all of the momentum in the third set and it looked like they may hand the Lions a loss on their home court. The fourth set started with the teams exchanging points through the first half until Brooke Christie went on  a 5 point serving run in which she scored 3 aces. This forced head coach Colin Kubinec to take a timeout when the score was 13-14.  An unfortunate Medicine Hat injury along with some extra urgency from the Lions, kept the score close as the game was again tied at 22.  Willow Lewington closed out the 4th set with three points of her own (one of which was an ace). The fifth set saw the Lions get out to a quick 8-4 lead and manage to hold on, winning 15-12.  Player of the Game awards were presented to Med Hat Outside-Hitter Amber Stigter and Ambrose Lions middle Willow Lewington.
