Lions Finish in Three

Lions Finish in Three

The visiting Olds Broncos arrived in the Ambrose gym eager to compete with the Lions but fell in three sets.

The Broncos struggled to compete with the Lions in terms of offense kills so relied on a variety of shots including off-speed and tips to earn a large portion of their points.  This forced the Lions to be ready on defense and quick to read the shot.  While the Broncos were successful in finding the floor with these shots a number of times, they struggled to build momentum with a number of missed serves at key moments.  In contrast, the Lions maintained control of the serve-pass game and kept Olds out-of-system a good portion of the time, with an impressive 11 service aces.

Lion's coach Colin Kubinec made a number of subs in the second and third sets, bringing in his first year players and letting them find their rhythm on the court. While they were finding that rhythm in the third, the Broncos chipped away and lessened the gap in points, but the Lions were too far ahead in the end.  Following the game, 4th year Lion's Captain Ali Leskow said that, "Everyone on the team was firing on all cylinders and everyone did their job- we really played like a mature team tonight".  Player of the Game was awarded to Broncos #17 Searra Schoepfner and Lions #12 Jeena Johner.
