GPRC Host Double Header Against Augustana Vikings
The Wolves welcomed the Augustana Vikings to their gym for a pair of weekend games. Wolves are coming off a split last weekend against Concordia and are eager to win a pair.
Augustana put the first point on the board by #5 Sarah Dedrick. GPRC responded with a pair before the Vikings did. The set went back and forth until 10 points when the Vikings pulled away to 15. Wolves never gave up, they fought to 15 and called a time out at 20-15 Vikings. The set ended 25-15 Vikings. Rae Metrunec and Leah Friesen both had 3 kills each to end the set.
Back to back kills for Megan Fowler starts the 2nd set. Heather Holtz serves for 3 points for the Wolves, putting them up 3-1. The set stays close until the Wolves pull ahead 16-12. The Vikings stay in it and come within 3, 18-21. After an impressive long rally for 1 point, the Vikings take it, and Wolves call a time out at 21-19, Wolves. Jaden Cross put away a big point to put the Wolves up 22-19. The Vikings couldn't recover from a big kill by Megan Warner and she makes it 23-20. Last point to Megan Warner, and the Wolves take the set 25-20.
A long rally to start the 3rd is ended by #5 Sarah Dedrick. The Vikings go up 2-0 early before Leah Friesen owns a kill to make it 2-1. Both teams battled at the net, the Vikings took control and went up 11-5. Vikings still all about the offense and go up 17-8. Leah Friesen nails a big kill to put 12 on the board for the Wolves. Both teams fight hard, Vikings needed a timeout at 21-17 Vikings. The Wolves never gave up, down by 9 early and end the set ends 25-21 for the Vikings and a 2:1 lead.
Wolves take the first point of the 4th set. Head to head they battle and score remains tied through to 7-7. The Vikings found another gear and pulled away to 11-7. Head coach Lauren Hale-Miller calls a timeout. Out of the timeout the Wolves went down 7-13. A few substitutions were made for the Wolves. They dug deep and came back to make the score 14-13 Wolves before head coach Steven Enright calls a timeout. Out of the timeout Wolves serve out of bounds. The score remains close at 20-18 before Wolves call another timeout. Jaden Cross and Hayley Hall combine for a huge block to tie the game at 24. Wolves come back to win 28:26 and tie the match 2:2. 5th set to come.
The Wolves went down 4-0 early. #4 Rebecca Petrie served for 5 straight points until net serve. Vikings up 5-1. Side switch happened at 7-1 Vikings. Both teams battled hard however it was all Vikings. The 5th set ends 15:6 and the Vikings take the match 3-2.
Player of the Game for the Augustana Vikings was #19 Justine Collin with 11 kills and 11 digs and for the GPRC Wolves #7 Leah Friesen with 10 kills and 12 digs.
