Ooks stay alive in playoff race after Friday night victory

EDMONTON, Alta. – In a battle of two teams battling for their playoff lives, the Ooks and Wolves battled in a back and forth affair with little separating the two teams for most of the night, with the NAIT Ooks coming away with a crucial 3 sets to 2 win on Friday night to take control of the final playoff spot in the ACAC north division.

The first set saw the Ooks pull away in the middle building a seven-point lead at 19-12 and finish the set off a little later after that. A bounce back from the Wolves would level the sets at one a piece and set the stage for a tight affair the rest of the night.

Both the third and fourth sets were the tightest of the night with 25-23 scores going both directions and setting the stage for an all-important fifth set.

A strong start to the fifth from the Ooks saw them ultimately build a large lead and run away with the set 15-4, a rare big gap for a set in a match played mostly on even terms.

The win sees the Ooks win their first game at home this season and improve the season series over the wolves to 3-0.

The teams will rematch on Saturday February 15, 2020 at NAIT Gymnasium
