Queens down Clippers in four

Red Deer, AB – The Red Deer College Queens handed the previously undefeated Briercrest College Clippers their first setback of the season. It was a playoff type atmosphere at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre, as the Queens dropped the Clippers in four sets (23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-22).

It was the 19th consecutive victory for the Queens, who are ranked fifth in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The second nationally ranked Clippers' winning streak ended at 20 on Friday.

Three members of the Queens hit double-digits in kills. Ponoka's Tess Pearman fired 18 kills and two aces in addition to three digs and a pair of stuff blocks. Emma Holmes and Erin Neufeldt had 12 kills each.

Rebecca Garner led Briercrest College with 11 kills. Mia Harder had nine. Reece Harder and Mikayla Benterud added eight each.

Emma Letkeman (30 assists) and Kelly Heinemann (eight assists) shared the RDC setter duties.

Libero Kaylee Domoney was named the Collegiate Sports Medicine Queens Player-of-the-Game. The Kinesiology student from Red Deer contributed 11 digs and four assists. 

Ashley Erickson received the award for the Clippers, totaling 34 assists, seven digs and two kills.

Both sides had five service aces.

The second place Queens trail the top seed Clippers by only two points in the south standings.

The Queens (19-2) and Clippers (20-1) will meet on Saturday at 1:00 pm at the Gary W. Harris Canada Centre.
