Austin Dyer Named ACAC 2019-20 Women’s Volleyball North Coach of the Year

Medicine Hat, AB (February 26, 2020) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is proud to announce Austin Dyer of the Lakeland Rustlers has been named the ACAC Women's Volleyball North Coach of the Year alongside the University of Augustana Women's Volleyball Coach, Steve Enright. The prestigious award was presented to Dyer at the 2020 ACAC Women's Volleyball Championships banquet held at Medicine Hat College on Feb. 26, 2020.

This is the third time Dyer has received the Coach of the Year award. Dyer is a fully certified Level 3 coach with a master of education in coaching studies. During his 11 years as head coach of the Lakeland women's volleyball program, he has guided his team to a playoff appearance every season and medaled each of the last three seasons, winning two golds and bronze along with a national Gold in 2016–17 and a national bronze in 2017–2018. This current season, the Rustlers women's team finished the regular season with an 18 and 6 record with a significantly new starting lineup.

"Austin is a very passionate and dedicated coach," commented Alan Rogan, Lakeland's athletic director. "His strong work ethic, high expectations and dedication to building a unified team has earned him the respect of both current and past student-athletes."

Due to Dyer's encouragement, the women's volleyball team's collective GPA is consistently over 3.0, with many student-athletes making the Dean's Honours Roll. Dyer also works with student-athletes on the coaching aspect, engaging many of the student-athletes as coaches with the Rustlers club volleyball program. Over the years, he has worked with 2 CCAA Female Apprentice coaches.

Dyer and the Rustlers are looking forward to the championships and will be working to bring home another ACAC medal.
