Women's Huskies fall in straight sets to Rustlers

The Keyano Huskies women's volleyball team took a straight-sets loss Friday at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre, falling in three sets (25-22, 25-22, 25-11) to the Lakeland Rustlers.

The Huskies kept the game within reach in each of the first two sets, but the Rustlers came out with a strong start to the third set, powering them to a 14-point victory to close out the match.

A bright spot for the Huskies in the match saw rookie Tanisha McQueen make her Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) debut in the third set.

"I was very nervous, but it was just so exciting with all the fans and all the energy and have my team supporting me," said McQueen, who was named as the Huskies player of the game.

Tyneille Neufeld led the Huskies with six kills while Lainey Granley and Karlene Kaminski each had five to their credit. Nicki Jonkman added 17 assists while Raisa Stokes led the team with seven digs.

"It wasn't one of our best games, but we still have to capitalize on points," continued McQueen. "We just have to come harder tomorrow."

MacKenzie Yole led the Rustlers with 10 kills, three service aces, and four digs, earning Player of the Game honours for her side.

The two teams meet again at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre to close out the weekend doubleheader.
