Vikings Struggle against Rustlers
CAMROSE, AB - Sweeping the season series, the Lakeland Rustlers down the Augustana Vikings 3-1 (22-25, 25-13, 25-13, 25-14), Saturday night at Augustana Gym.
With the win, the Rustlers maintain sole possession of first place in the ACAC North Division with an 11-1 record, recording their only loss to the King's University Eagles.
The Vikings now trail the Rustlers in the standings by four points as they get swept in their season series against the Rustlers.
Leading the way for the Rustlers were outside hitters Jenay Varga and Avery Bates with 12 kills and 11 kills, respectively.
Across the court, the Vikings outside hitter Emily Peterson had 11 kills, while settler Sarah Dedrick added 25 assists.
In a not-so-warm welcome for their visitors, the Vikings came out strong pushing their guests throughout the first set, which paid off as the Vikings took the first lead of the match, 25-22.
However, it a sudden change in momentum, the Rustlers returned in full force in the second set taking advantage of every error made by their hosts to tie the match with a 25-13 set win.
The Rustlers kept rolling in a similar fashion, pulling ahead with a third set, 25-13 win before finishing the Vikings with another dominant set, 25-14.
Looking ahead, the Vikings will look to bounce back next weekend as they take on the Concordia Thunder in a home-and-home series. Meanwhile, the Rustlers will host the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves in a two-game series.
