NAIT Dominated the Vikings in Three Sets

CAMROSE, AB - In stunning fashion, the NAIT Ooks dominate the Vikings 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 26-24) in the final regular-season game for both teams, Friday night at Augustana Gym.

Even with the win, it may be too little too late for the Ooks to slide into the last playoff spot in the north division as they finish in seventh place tied in points with the Concordia Thunder who have only played 14 of 16 games. With the win, the Ooks will finish in the win column with a 3-13 season record.

Meanwhile, the Vikings remain in second place in the north, two points ahead of the Kings University Eagles, who will finish off their season on Thursday night when they take on the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves.

Getting off a hot start the Ooks opened the match with five unanswered points before allowing the home side to get on the board. They would continue that momentum to take the opening set, 25-12.

Knowing they need the win, the Vikings managed to exchanged points with their guests to start the second frame. However, the Ooks wouldn't let the Vikings stick around for long as they took a two-set lead, 25-15.

Hoping to stay alive, the Vikings once again exchanged points with the Ooks, eventually taking a 13-9 lead before coming near setpoint. A fury of mistakes, however, would prove to be costly as the Ooks upset the Vikings with a three straight-set victory, 26-24.

Looking ahead, the Vikings will wait to see how they officially finish is standings as teams around the league wrap up their own seasons. The top two teams in the division will receive a bye past the quarterfinal match-up on March 4th. The Ooks however, look to be missing the playoffs by a slim margin.
