Clippers Dominate Versus Rattlers
The Briercrest Clippers played host to the Medicine Hat Rattler's in a Sunday night Volleyball matchup in Caronport, SK.
Opening the game, the Clippers got up 6-2 early thanks to strong serving and defense. They then extended their lead to 9-4 over the Kodiaks. Medicine Hat battled back, however, narrowing the gap to two points, while the score now 9-7. Briercrest then got ahead 14-8, which prompted a Medicine Hat timeout. Out of the break, the Rattlers cut the lead to 4, Briercrest responded well though, going up 21-15 which saw another Medicine Hat timeout. Briercrest would go on to win the 1st set by a score of 25-15.
Medicine Hat had a good start to the second set, getting them up 4-1 early. Briercrest responded with a strong run of their own, which saw the score equal at 7 per side. Briercrest then pulled ahead 11-8, and eventually 14-10, which saw a Medicine Hat timeout to regroup. Out of the break, Briercrest stayed strong and kept pushing their lead. The Clippers won the second set by a score of 25-17 and took a 2-0 set lead in the match.
In the third set, the Rattlers lead by 4 early on, looking determined to start their comeback in this set. Briercrest battled back however and tied up the game at 10. The clippers edged slightly ahead taking a 13-10 lead, which saw the rattlers call a timeout to slow them down. Out of the timeout, the Clippers got an 18-14 lead. With Briercrest now up 20-18, Medicine Hat called their second timeout of the set. The game saw itself tied at 20 after this break, but the Clippers fended off the late surge and took the third and final set by a score of 25-21.
The ACAC Player of the game award for Medicine Hat was presented to #12 Megan Kowalski who recorded 5 Kills, 1 Dig, 15 Assists.
For the Briercrest Clippers, the award went to #2 Bailey Opseth, who had 33 Assists, along with 2 Digs and 1 Kill in the match.
