Eagles too much for Lions at ACAC Championships

CAMROSE, Alta. The dominant run continued in the second matchup of the day at the Women's Volleyball Championships, as the Eagles delivered another commanding performance, sweeping the Lions in straight sets.

Motivated after an early loss on opening day, the Eagles came out with urgency and control. Their aggressive play quickly translated into a commanding 20–12 lead, leaving the Lions searching for answers. Kings maintained their momentum through the closing points, comfortably taking the opening set 25–17.

The Lions showed renewed fight in the second set, with their No. 17 Jenelle Martens stepping up on both sides of the ball. Timely digs and well-placed kills helped keep Ambrose within reach, trailing narrowly at 15–13 midway through the set. As the red zone approached, however, the Eagles remained poised. Leah Aukema anchored the front row, while Emma Scheerle continued a strong offensive showing at the net. Despite improved offensive rhythm from the Lions, led by Rachel Barg, the Eagles shut the door late to claim a tighter second set, 25–22.
Kings left no doubt in the third, exploding out of the gate with an 11–3 run. The Lions struggled to find openings against a disciplined Eagles block, anchored by Emma Scheerle and Ashley Lockwood. Ambrose stayed alive defensively through the efforts of Emilie Pregal, but the offensive pressure proved too much to overcome. The Eagles cruised to a dominant 25–9 finish, sealing the sweep in emphatic fashion.

With the straight-sets victory, the Eagles reasserted themselves with a confident and composed performance, showcasing depth, discipline, and determination at a crucial point in the tournament.
"With a heartbreaking loss yesterday, we just wanted to come in and finish the tournament strong for the sake of our fifth year libero, and just play well for her," says Head Coach of the Kings Eagles Grace Scott. " We know Red Deer is always good competition and ended we actually ended up playing them at the end of last season, so I guess it's a little bit of a rematch, it will be good competition"

The Eagles will move on to tomorrow's consolation final against the Red Deer Queens tomorrow at 11:30am
