Queens crowned in Consolation final
CAMROSE, Alta. — The Red Deer Queens secured the consolation final title with a hard-fought four-set win over The Kings Eagles at the ACAC Women's Volleyball Championships. In a match defined by extended rallies, defensive grit, and momentum swings, the Queens prevailed 3–1 (26–24, 22–25, 25–19, 25–17).
The opening set showcased evenly matched teams trading points deep into the red zone. Neither side gave an inch, but the Queens edged the Eagles in extended play to take the opener 26–24.
The Eagles responded with authority in the second set, building a commanding 17–11 lead behind strong offensive leadership from Leah Aukema and Ashley Lockwood. The Queens mounted a late push fueled by the steady front-row presence of Rachel Perry, while key defensive efforts from Corey Hannett kept Red Deer within reach. Despite the surge, the Eagles remained composed to close out the set 25–22.
Red Deer took control early in the third, racing out to a 9–2 lead. The set featured impressive defensive plays on both sides, highlighted by digs from Chenee Lehman and Maddy DeZutter. Lehman energized the Eagles with a rare libero kill to narrow the gap, but the Queens maintained momentum and claimed the set 25–19.
The Queens carried their confidence into the fourth, jumping out to a 4–1 lead behind Perry's front-row attack. Strong defence anchored the set, including a momentum-shifting block from Raya Roesler. Red Deer widened the margin to 17–8 before the Eagles mounted a late comeback attempt with tough serving pressure, including an ace from Samantha Langdon. The rally came up short, as the Queens closed the match 25–17.
With the win, the Red Deer Queens finish the championship on a high note, capturing the consolation final and showcasing depth, consistency, and resilience throughout the tournament.
