2022 Running Room ACAC XC Grand Prix Race #2: Jordan Fish Open
CALGARY, ALTA., (Sep. 17, 2022) – On a sunny Saturday afternoon, the SAIT Trojans hosted the second Grand Prix cross-country event of the season – the Jordan Fish Memorial.
The women of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) kicked things off with a 6-kilometre race around Confederation Park. Red Deer Polytechnic's Jenica Swartz crossed the tape first in a time 24:34, while Medicine Hat College's Rebecca Ross (25:33) and Concordia University of Edmonton's Taylor Chamberlain (26:33) took second and third place, respectively.
Red Deer also earned first place in the women's team event, earning 30 points. St. Mary's University (56) took second, while Lethbridge College (82) took third.
The host Trojans women's team were down a few members due to illness, but Jill Stewart represented the squad with a solid fifth-place finish in a time of 26:51.
Next up were the men, and Concordia's Leonard Chesoo continued his status as the conference's top runner, placing first in a time of 26:37 in the 8km loop. SAIT teammates Tofik Said (26:43) and Yahye Jama (27:07) fell in right behind Chesoo, taking second and third place.
Red Deer's men's squad followed that of their female counterparts and took first in the team event with 30 points, followed SAIT (41) and Lethbridge College (57).
Next up for the Trojans and the rest of the conference will be a chance to see what they will be running on when the ACAC Championships take place in late October when the province's runners head to Edmonton to navigate the trails on Oct. 1 in the third Grand Prix event of the year, hosted by Concordia University of Edmonton.
