Sun Shines down on St. Mary’s for the ACAC’s 4th Grand Prix of the Season

Calgary, AB (October 15, 2022) - The weather set up great for the ACAC's 4th grand prix of the season hosted by St. Mary's University on Saturday Oct 15th. The last race of the season before ACAC championships saw the competitors ready to give it their best and put foot their best effort and they did not disappoint.

The women's 6km race started at 12:00pm with 47 runners crossing the finish line. Leading the way in a blazing time was University of Alberta Augustana Runner Reese Bendiksen finishing with a time of 23:04. Coming in second from Medicine Hat College with a time of 23:36 was Rebecca Ross and right behind Rebecca was her team mate Maddy Scrimger with a time of 23:59 for the third spot.

It was quite a battle for the top spot for the team finish as well with a single point separating 1st and 2nd spot. The winning team for the meet with the top 4 finishers was the host St. Mary's University, Maria fox (4th 24:17), Cadence Laplante (5th 24:28), Sydney Zissos (6th 24:35) and Elizabeth Krueger (19th 28:44) with a team score of 34. In second with 35 points was the Medicine Hat College team Rebecca Ross (2nd 23:36), Maddy Scrimger (3rd 23:59), Cheldyn Molnar (14th 26:12) and Pyper Gil (16th 26:59) and taking home 3rd place in the team event was Red Deer Polytechnic Justine Larson (10th 25:56), Melissa Ray (15th 26:46), Emily Barritt (22nd 29:02) and Kammy Park (24th 29:27).

The men's 8km race took off at 1:00pm with a field of 58 runners crossing the finish line. Finishing the 8km course in record time was Leonard Chesoo at 24:48 from Concordia University to take top spot. Taking home second in the 8km was Moktar Said 25:39 from SAIT polytechnic and team mate Keiran Marchand rounded out the top 3 with a time of 26:09.

SAIT polytechnic men had a very impressive showing taking home top team honors with 19 points and all 4 scoring runners finishing in the top 10. Moktar Said (2nd 25:39), Keiran Marchand (3rd 26:09), Tofik Said (4th 26:15) and Elsami Rosa-Molina (10th 29:22). In second place with 35 points Red Deer Polytechnic Daniel Szucs (5th 26:32), Ethan Duret (8th 27:58), Ben House (9th 28:01) and Ben Higham (13th 29:32). Finalizing the third place spot in the team event was Lethbridge College Cooper Williams (6th 26:52), Cole Herbertt (11th 29:30), Jack Bentley (19th 31:04) and Chase Chambers (32:53)
