ACAC Running Room Grand Prix Series Race #2 Recap
This past Saturday, September 20, the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks hosted the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Running Room (ACAC) Grand Prix #2 at Nicholas Sheran Park in Lethbridge, AB. Runners faced challenging conditions as the temperature peaked at 30ºC, making hydration and pacing critical throughout the afternoon.
The course featured a 2-kilometre loop made entirely of grass with a few rolling hills, offering a tough but fair challenge for athletes representing eight schools across the conference. Teams in attendance included The King's University Eagles, Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks, Medicine Hat College Rattlers, SAIT Trojans, Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens, St. Mary's University Lightning, the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings, and Ambrose University.
Women's Score:
- Kerigan Frampton (SAIT) – 25:37
- Julianna Chipiuk (RDP) – 26:44
- Pheonix Asprey (MHC) – 26:59
The women started the competition at 1 p.m. Kerigan Frampton from SAIT crossed the finish line first with a time of 25:37, claiming the ACAC Running Room Grand Prix #2 win.
In the team category, made up of each team's top four female runners, the Medicine Hat College Rattlers finished first overall with 25 points. The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens finished right behind with 29 points, and the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks came in third with 53 points.
Men's Score:
- Nathan Woyessa (SAIT) – 27:55
- Japhet Kipkosgei (RDP) – 28:05
- Reggie Williams (UAA) – 30:19
The men followed with their race at 2 p.m. SAIT's Nathan Woyessa led the pack throughout the course, finishing first overall in the ACAC Running Room Grand Prix #2.
In the team category, made up of each team's top four male runners, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings finished first overall with 25 points. The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks finished in second with 51 points, and the SAIT Trojans came in third with 54 points.
The next ACAC Grand Prix event will take place this Saturday, September 27, in Grande Prairie, hosted by the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves. This race will be an opportunity for runners to get a first look and feel of the ACAC championship course, which will be run on October 25.
