NWP Wolves Host 2025 ACAC Cross Country Championship in Grande Prairie
Grande Prairie, AB (October 25, 2025) - A perfect fall day set the stage for the Alberta Colleges Athletic Association (ACAC) Cross Country Championship, hosted by the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves at Muskoseepi Park in Grande Prairie. With clear skies and warm temperatures, conditions couldn't have been better for the athletes representing 12 institutions from across Alberta. A total of 66 women competed in the 6km race and 68 men in the 8km event, making for an exciting day of competition.
Women's 6km Race
Ashlee Walker of Concordia University (CUE) took the lead early and never looked back, capturing gold with a time of 23:22. Her dominant performance also earned her Female Runner of the Year and All-Conference honors. Julianna Chipiuk of Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) claimed silver with a time of 23:27, followed closely by last year's champion, Cadence Laplante from St. Mary's University (STMU), who took bronze in 23:28. Phoenix Asprey of Medicine Hat College (MHC) finished 7th overall (24:53) to earn Rookie of the Year and an All-Conference selection. Rounding out the women's All-Conference team were Madison Scrimger (MHC), Brynn Hebert (NAIT), and Kerigan Frampton (SAIT).
Men's 8km Race
The men's race delivered a thrilling showcase of endurance and talent. Nathan Woyessa of SAIT secured his third consecutive ACAC gold medal, finishing in 25:09—a full 30 seconds ahead of the field. Japhet Kipkosgei of RDP earned silver with a time of 25:46, while also capturing the Grand Prix Title for the top overall series performer. Reggie Williams of the University of Alberta – Augustana (UAA) claimed bronze in 27:15. Additional All-Conference selections included Ethan Grasmeyer (Lethbridge Polytechnic), Andrew Leffers (RDP), Conner Vandenhoek (Lethbridge Polytechnic), and Logan Pancoast (MHC), who was also named Male Rookie of the Year.
Team Event
It was a banner day for Red Deer Polytechnic, with the RDP Kings and Queens capturing team gold in both the men's and women's divisions.

Michael Schnare, head coach of the RDP Kings and Queens, was named ACAC Coach of the Year, capping off an incredible meet that saw his teams capture both championships and place six runners in the top ten.
