Portage College falls to Clippers

LAC LA BICHE – The start was good, the finish not too bad. As for the middle, well, that's another story. The Portage College Voyageurs lost 8-4 to the Briercrest Clippers on Saturday afternoon at the Bold Center, mainly because of a difficult middle frame. The Voyageurs scored three goals in a wild second period but allowed five against, including four power play markers.

"We lost our composure in the second period," said Portage Head Coach Nate Bedford after the game. "Our penalty killing is just not good enough right now to lose our composure, especially when trying to kill off back-to-back penalties."

Josh Boelema led the way for Briercrest, becoming the second Clipper in as many games to record a hat trick. His four-point effort was enough to nab the player of the game award for his squad. For the Voyageurs, Adam Crowe netted his first two goals of the season and added an assist and was named player of the game for his team.

After a disappointing weekend in which they were outscored 12-6 by the team they're chasing in the standings, the Voyageurs will try to regroup on their next couple of road trips to Calgary to take on SAIT Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 and Red Deer Feb. 14-15 to take on the Kings.
