Broncos Men’s Volleyball is headed to the second round of playoffs

Olds, AB

The Olds College Broncos won 3-0 over the Medicine Hat Rattlers (25-15, 25-10, 25-21) on Friday, March 4, 2022  at the Ralph Klein Centre.

The Broncos took an early lead over the Rattlers in the first set. Thomas Pugsley did a great job setting up his teammates. The Broncos played very strong at the net seeing Haiden Hurtig and Aidyn Phillips dominating. The Rattlers worked hard and made great plays with Jovan Stepanovic and Nathan Chernik up front. The Broncos took the first set 25-15 over the Ratters. 

The second set the Ratters had a great start with center Jasxon Bos and Nathan Chernik. The Broncos started to have an advantage with great blocks. The Broncos continued to have great serves and made the rattlers' life difficult during the second set.  Libero Jay Hill worked hard defending  in the back row. Broncos Aidyn Phillips played very well at the net as well as Braden Bates and Phillip Sutherland. Broncos strong presences at the net allowed them to take the second set 25-10.

Reed Grusing really showed why he was ACAC and CCAA athlete of the week last week and led the team while his teammate continued to dominate defensively at the net. Nathan Chernik with the Rattlers had great serves and Jovan Stepanovic with some great kills really kept the Rattlers alive in the third, while Jay Hill kept the positive energy going for the Rattlers. Tonight the Broncos were stronger and won the set 25-21. 

The player of the game for the Medicine Hat Rattlers was number 3, Nathan Chernik and the player of the game for the Olds College Broncos was number 12, Braden Bates.
