Semi Finals - Game 1

The St Mary's Lighting take on The Augustana Vikings in the ACAC Women's Basketball Championship consolation semi-finals. 

The Vikings started the game hot, with their biggest lead of 7 points after 5 minutes of play. Shortly after that, The Lightning were able to answer going on a 9-0 run. The first quarter ended with 18 points for the Augustana, with Mallory Ogilvie (#5) contributing just under half of the team's points, finishing the first quarter with 8. Salome Nuako (#14) led on the offensive end for The Lighting, scoring her 5 points during their 9-0 run.

The second quarter was back and forth as each team went bucket for bucket. The Vikings' Maren Macdonald (#23) went 4 for 5 from beyond the arc alongside Ella Newman (#11) who went 3 for 4 from three. On the other side of the ball The Lighting had Kendal Russell (#5) going 3 for 3 from beyond the arc and Eva Nickerson (#7) sharing the ball well with 3 assists. Augustana finished the half with 42 points, while St Mary's had 38.  

In the third quarter both teams' shooting percentages from the three dropped to 0 allowing Augustana's Mackenzie Mrazik (#14) to pull down 7 rebounds. The Vikings still were able to slowly pull away, maintaining a lead throughout the third, ending with a score of 57- 49.

The Vikings continued to build their lead but St Mary's was able to hold their own and eventually went on a 11-1 run to take the lead. Russel making huge contributions to the run and scoring the tying basket with 37 seconds left forcing the game into overtime.

In overtime, The Vikings struck first  taking the lead but The Lighting were not backing down with Ivet Hiladgo (#8) hitting two clutch free throws to take back the lead. St Mary's finished the game with 83 points to the Vikings' 79. 

Player of the game for Augustana was Mackenzie Mrazik (#14) with a well-rounded stat line of 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 23 points. And Kendal Russell (#5)  for St Mary's University, leading her team to victory with 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and 26 points, shooting 57% from the 3.

The St Mary's University Lighting will be advancing to the ACAC Championship Consolation final game tomorrow against the Briercrest Clippers at 1:00 pm (CST).
