Huskies outlast Trojans in semifinal classic
The first semifinal match up was a classic between the Keyano Huskies and the SAIT Trojans, two teams with plenty of ACAC history. Just the warm up alone had intense energy, with the 16-4 Huskies looking to be the first team to beat the Trojans this season.
Great defending from both teams was a recurring theme, set, with the Huskies controlling the offensive play. SAIT called the first time out down 4-13 and the quarter ended with Keyano up 18-10.
SAIT came into the second with intense energy ready, but the Huskies held firm. A big three from Deandre Rower cut back into the momentum and the Huskies led 29-22 at the half.
A huge dunk made by Killian Yopa sent an even more intense tone for the 3rd quarter has been set. SAIT tied the game 33-33 with six minutes left in the 3rd, as both benches began chatting back and forth. Four fouls on big man Evan Meyer put the Huskies in a tough spot without him on the court. The Trojans defence led to some clutch buckets and they managed to take the lead 44-39.
Both teams continued to push in the fourth, with the Huskies benefiting from the return of Meyer, who played the quarter on four fouls. A late push put Keyano up and they held that till the end, winning 66-63.
Deandre Rower had 15 points and was Player of the Game for the Huskies, while Cam Carter (16 points) was the Trojans POG.
SAIT now plays in the bronze medal game at 1:00 pm tomorrow and Keyano goes for the second gold medal in three seasons at 6:00 pm.
